BACKGROUND

Advocacy is our primary mission. Since the 1990's we have been at the forefront addressing a range of ethical issues that face the jewelry industry. But speaking out is not enough. We felt the need to create a line of jewelry that exemplified our ideals while exhibiting a sense of design and style. With this in mind, the Earthwise Jewelry® Collection was born.

Leber Jeweler Inc was one of the first jewelers in North America to offer Canadian diamonds. (We worked closely with the developers of the first branded Canadian diamond.) By seeking diamonds with a verifiable country of origin, we sought a solution to the problems facing the diamond trade when the situation in Africa was at its worst. (Simultaneously, we began work with Amnesty International to address the issue.) As time progressed, we quickly found ourselves a leading voice in addressing this and a growing range of other issues.

Fair-trade issues and the rights of workers throughout the world have always been of deep concern to us. Throughout our lives we have been actively involved with various human rights and environmental organizations and choose to live with a respectful attitude to the Earth and its inhabitants. With our years of experience in the gem trade, we actively work with contacts throughout the world to communicate the need to offer a fair and living wage to the miners and cutters who produce a variety of colored stones. In addition, the protection of the environment is of vital concern. By working with small producers and like-minded individuals in all corners of the globe, we are able to have closer contact with the sources of our gemstones than most other jewelers. In addition, through this partnership we are also able to offer something back to the communities that provide us our basic materials. From helping schools in South East Asia to digging a well in Malawi, our network is able to work on the ground in small mining communities to address issues that might otherwise go unnoticed by the larger humanitarian projects. In turn, our clients can rest assured their purchase has offered assistance and economic development to hard-working individuals throughout the world.
